Vattnäs konsertlada - Sångfest
The libretto is Pers Anna Larsson's first, based on the lives and relationship of Anders and Emma Zorn. A four-year secret correspondence between Anders Zorn and Emma Lamm before their marriage has been a key source, as have Birgitta Sandström's books about the couple - Sandström was formerly director of the Zorn Museum. As Anna Larsson describes it: "The couple is modern, dynamic, and in many ways mismatched, but they probably feel themselves that they were put on earth to make Anders' artistry and his memory immortal."
The music is composed by Matthew Peterson, who lives in Smedjebacken, Dalarna, and has previously written two chamber operas with success in the USA. He describes the work as follows: "The opera follows the couple Anders and Emma Zorn through their relationship from beginning to end. The music paints their world, Anders' artistry, and the couple's journeys - both outer and inner - through life." The conductor is Cecilia Martin-Löf, who has previously conducted Matthew Peterson's music. The set designer is Patrik Sörling, who also served as dramaturg during the libretto work and previously directed Norrmalmstorgsdramat (2018) and Rhenguldet (2019) at Vattnäs Konsertlada. Costume and makeup design is by Gabriella Wetter Burman, in her third production at Vattnäs Konsertlada after Läderlappen and Poppeas Kröning.
Casting: Julia Lindgren as young Emma, Fredrik Hagerberg as young Anders, Pers Anna Larsson and Göran Eliasson as the older couple, Ingrid Tobiasson as Emma's mother Henriette, and Anders Larsson as Herman, Emma's brother.
