The Escape Room

A room filled with esoteric symbols, riddles, and hidden clues - and three psychopomps, played by Adrian Kautsky, Linda Forsell, and Ambrose Watts. A psychopomp is a mythological figure who serves as a guide between the conscious and the unconscious, appearing in times of change to lead us through crisis and transformation.

The artistic team plays with the expectations of the classic escape room format, but the performance offers no clear solutions. Instead of finding a way out, the audience is led deeper into themselves and into the collective unconscious - a shared journey that acts as a resistance to contemporary ideas of the self as something to be optimized and repaired, and of time as something to be maximized and controlled.

Drawing on lived experiences of therapy, healing, serious illness, and gender transition, combined with surrealist methods and esoteric practices, the work creates a stage art piece that is humorous, suggestive, and enchanting.

The performance is created by the Malmö-based stage art group Tlön in collaboration with SWEETS (formerly PotatoPotato Scenkonst) and the venue KONTRÄR.
