Phantom of the Everyday
Sara Kulturhus Scen 2, Skellefteå
A living room becomes the stage - with doors and windows that can open at any moment to so-called ordinary people, with all their quirks and learned mannerisms. Everyday life and celebration alternate, and everyone seems to want to fit in. It works, more or less.
The performance draws inspiration from Luis Buñuel's film The Phantom of Liberty, but shifts focus from freedom to the mundane. What does it do to us when we constantly measure ourselves against others' expectations - when normality becomes a life project? Finnish playwright and director Saara Turunen responds with a melodic stage collage where absurdity and melancholy coexist, filled with humour and a gentle eye for life's peculiarities.
The performance is in Finnish with subtitles in Finnish and Swedish. Duration: 1 hour 40 minutes.
