Josef Slunge
Few Swedish artists have followed their own inspiration as uncompromisingly as Josef Slunge. From early in his career, he has moved freely between genres and forms of expression while maintaining the core of the storytelling that drives him.
His debut album "ikväll, inatt, men aldrig imorgon" (2022) caught the attention of P3, Aftonbladet, Nöjesguiden, Göteborgs-Posten, and Gaffa. This was followed by the mixtape "I LOVE YOU" (2024) and the single "Zoey" - a duet with Håkan Hellström that reached a new audience. As a live artist, he has grown from venue to venue, through club gigs and guest appearances with artists including Håkan Hellström and Cleo.
The upcoming album, released this autumn, has taken shape differently than before. Working with Gustav Olea Aspenrot, the songs have emerged through jams and collaborative musicmaking rather than laptop production. "We've been very careful to preserve the organic, raw, and human quality in the process. This is our way of rebelling against today's highly polished, often AI-influenced soundscape that seems to dominate the charts," says Josef Slunge.
Lyrics have always been central to Slunge's artistry - from early recordings to the poetry workshops he runs for young people in Malmö and Gothenburg. The new music explores complicated relationships, escape, and identity with a more stripped-back and direct expression.
