Psychologists Go to the Theatre — Dramatenbaren, Stockholm

On three occasions, psychologist and conversation facilitator Jonas Mosskin meets an invited guest at Dramatenbaren to explore each play in depth. The three works have been adapted for our time - but what do they really tell us about the world we live in today?

The conversations move between what we have just seen on stage and the original work the production is based on. Many audience members bring their own readings, memories, and interpretations, and in the meeting between them, a space emerges between then and now, between source and interpretation. There is no single answer, only perspectives.

Since 2007, Jonas Mosskin has run the conversation concept "Psychologists Watch Films" at Kulturhuset in Stockholm, and has also collaborated with various institutions to discuss novels in "Psychologists Read Books".

The Misanthrope
The conversation explores what has shaped the main character Alceste into the misanthrope he is - what experiences lie behind his contempt for people? The starting point is his upbringing with an absent father and a mother who does not prioritize love, and how this shapes his view of relationships, truth, and society's norms. Playwrights Jens Ohlin and Hannes Meidal connect to these themes.

Parzival
A boy raised in total isolation sets out to become a knight without understanding what it means. In meeting the outside world, his literal interpretations of morality clash with a chaotic reality where concepts such as honour, love, and justice lack meaning. The conversation analyses his actions, his lack of empathy and insight, and what happens when rules replace empathy.

A Love Story
How does love change through life - from the thrill of youth to the more thoughtful relationships of adulthood? The conversation revolves around passion, experience, and the question of whether it is possible to relive that first, overwhelming love.
