Seaside Knitting: Surface Patterns from Gansey Jumpers — Sjöfartsmuseet Akvariet, Gothenburg

Knit surface patterns from British gansey jumpers!

Ganseys are jumpers worn by fishermen and sailors along the coasts of Britain and Holland, and from there spread to other countries around the North Sea. This is the second workshop on the theme of ganseys that Anna Josefsson holds at the Maritime Museum Aquarium. Anna has visited Britain a couple of times since then and has more to tell about the culture surrounding gansey jumpers.

Patterns for sample swatches from the previous session are available, but new patterns to try are also included. The sample swatches vary in difficulty and you choose which one you want to knit. Bring knitting needles (approximately 3 mm) and leftover yarn that matches the needles.

Anna Josefsson grew up in Skärhamn and has a strong connection to the sea. She creates textiles and teaches various techniques in her company Vinterverkstan, and is also a kelp diver, fisherman, and biology teacher.

The workshop is included in the admission ticket but has limited capacity. Be on site no later than 10 minutes before the start - otherwise your place will be reassigned if there is a queue. Unbooked places are released until the programme item begins. If you have any obstacles, email: info.sjofartsmuseetakvariet@kultur.goteborg.se
