Women and Apple Trees — Teatern, Nyköping

Moa Martinson's 1933 novel takes us to a poor neighbourhood in Norrköping at the end of the 19th century, where Sally and Ellen grow up and later, as adults, find their way back to each other. Ellen endures a destructive marriage through silence - her way of surviving. Sally chooses a different path - she speaks plainly, regardless of whether anyone listens. Around them, children move through a daily life of hard work, loss, and moments of belonging.

The novel portrays women's living conditions in language rooted in earth and labour, and that perspective has not aged. Nearly a hundred years later, it now comes to life on stage in an adaptation by Tora von Platen, directed by Julia Marko-Nord. The production is a co-production with Västerbottensteatern and is performed with an interval - total length 2 hours.
