André Rieu (born 1 October 1949 in Maastricht, Netherlands) is a Dutch violinist and conductor who founded the Johann Strauss Orchestra in 1987 and built it into one of the world's biggest live-music acts - regularly filling arenas that normally host rock and pop. Known as the 'Waltz King', he has sold over 40 million albums and, as of 2018, his career box-office earnings had surpassed half a billion dollars, making him the highest-grossing classical artist in Boxscore history. His annual open-air summer concerts on the Vrijthof square in Maastricht are broadcast to cinemas worldwide.
Rieu released 'Thank You, Johann Strauss' (3 CD + DVD), a tribute album marking the 200th birthday of Johann Strauss II, on 7 November 2025.
Rieu is currently on a world tour spanning 19 countries with 68 upcoming concerts, with the next dates at the Vrijthof in Maastricht in July 2026.
The 2026 Maastricht summer concert series 'Viva Maastricht!' will be broadcast to cinemas worldwide via the André in Cinemas programme.
Rieu's 2025-2026 world tour covers over 66 concerts across 18 countries, with guest performers joining the Johann Strauss Orchestra at each show.
