Aynur Doğan, a celebrated Kurdish vocalist, brings traditional Kurdish music to Uppsala.
Aynur Doğan (born 1 March 1975 in Çemişgezek, Tunceli, Turkey) is a Kurdish singer and saz player who has spent over two decades bringing centuries-old Kurdish folk songs to international concert halls. She blends traditional Alevi and Kurdish oral repertoire with Western arrangements, and has collaborated with Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble, flamenco artist Javier Limón, and the NDR Big Band, among others. Facing repeated threats in Turkey, she relocated to Amsterdam in 2012 and has since performed across Europe, North America and beyond. Her work has earned her the WOMEX Artist Award (2021) and the Master of Mediterranean Music Award from Berklee College of Music (2017).
Aynur completed her first full UK tour in spring 2026, with dates in Bristol, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Dublin and London's Barbican Hall, all in support of her 2024 album Rabe.
Aynur undertook a Turkey tour in May 2025 (the Rabe 2025 Türkiye Turnesi), with concerts in Istanbul, Adana, Gaziantep, Diyarbakir, Mardin, Ankara, Antalya and Izmir.
Her 2024 album Rabe reached number one on the Transglobal World Music Chart and was described by Songlines Magazine as 'one of her strongest albums'.
Aynur received the WOMEX Artist Award at the World Music Expo in Porto in August 2021, recognising her artistic integrity and resilience against political pressure.
Berklee College of Music recognised Aynur with the Master of Mediterranean Music Award in March 2017 for her contributions to preserving Kurdish oral traditions.
