Beth Orton (born Elizabeth Caroline Orton, 14 December 1970, Norfolk) is a BRIT Award-winning English singer-songwriter who coined the term 'folktronica' for her blend of acoustic folk and electronic textures. She first came to wider attention through collaborations with William Orbit and the Chemical Brothers in the mid-1990s, then built a devoted following with Central Reservation (1999) and the UK top-10 album Daybreaker (2002). Now nine albums deep, she self-produces her records and is widely regarded as one of Britain's most consistently adventurous songwriters.
Beth Orton released her self-produced ninth album The Ground Above on 26 June 2026 via Partisan Records, to widespread critical acclaim.
Orton announced The Ground Above and shared the lead single 'Waiting', describing it as 'a celebration of moving out of the holding pattern fear keeps us in.'
Orton shared the eight-minute title track 'The Ground Above' as the album's first preview, which topped Under the Radar's Songs of the Week list.
MOJO gave The Ground Above four stars, calling it a record that 'elegantly shores up Beth Orton's creative resurgence.'
Orton announced a North America and UK tour for autumn 2026 in support of The Ground Above, kicking off 15 September in Washington DC.
