Christoph Waltz (born 4 October 1956 in Vienna) is an Austrian-German-American actor who spent three decades in German television and theatre before Quentin Tarantino cast him as SS-colonel Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds (2009) - a role that brought him the Cannes Best Actor prize, a BAFTA, a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He won a second Oscar in the same category for Django Unchained (2012), making him one of the few actors to win twice for the same director. He has since starred in the James Bond films Spectre and No Time to Die as villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld, and in 2025 appeared in Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein on Netflix.
Waltz appeared in Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein (Netflix), playing wealthy arms manufacturer Henrich Harlander; the film premiered at the Venice Film Festival on 30 August 2025 and reached Netflix on 7 November 2025.
Waltz joined the cast of Only Murders in the Building Season 5 (Hulu) in a recurring role as Bash Steed, a billionaire AI tycoon and murder suspect; the season premiered on 9 September 2025.
Action-comedy Old Guy, starring Waltz as an aging contract killer, was released in US theaters and digitally on 21 February 2025, and later reached Paramount+ where it charted at No. 7.
Waltz received the Icon Award at the Newport Beach Film Festival on 17 October 2024, in recognition of his career.
