Derek Jarman was a British film director, artist and writer known for his experimental, visually bold work. His debut feature Sebastiane (1976) - a Latin-language retelling of the martyrdom of Saint Sebastian - was one of the first British films with openly gay content. Jarman remained a prominent voice in queer culture until his death in 1994.
