Ewan McGregor (born 31 March 1971 in Perth, Scotland) is a Scottish actor whose career spans over three decades and more than 100 film and TV credits. He broke through internationally as Mark Renton in Trainspotting (1996) and went on to play Obi-Wan Kenobi across the Star Wars prequel trilogy and the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022), which set a Disney+ viewership record at launch. His television work earned him a Primetime Emmy for Halston (2021) and a Golden Globe for Fargo (2017); in 2024 he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and in November 2025 BAFTA Scotland presented him with its Outstanding Contribution to Film and Television award.
McGregor received the BAFTA Scotland Outstanding Contribution to Film and Television award at the ceremony in Glasgow on 16 November 2025, presented by his uncle Denis Lawson.
Long Way Home, the fourth instalment of McGregor and Charley Boorman's motorcycle travelogue series, was released on Apple TV+ in May 2025, documenting a vintage-bike ride from Scotland to London via Europe.
McGregor returned to the West End for the first time in 17 years, starring in My Master Builder at Wyndham's Theatre in London from 17 April to 12 July 2025.
McGregor was honored with the 2,789th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on 12 September 2024.
McGregor stars alongside Anne Hathaway in The End of Oak Street, a sci-fi survival film directed by David Robert Mitchell, scheduled for release by Warner Bros. on 14 August 2026.
