Grand Kyiv Ballet performs its staging of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet at Sara kulturhus in Skellefteå.
Grand Kyiv Ballet is an independent Ukrainian touring ballet company founded in 2014 by Oleksandr Stoianov, a former principal dancer of the National Opera of Ukraine. Starting with a 35-theatre tour of France, the company has grown to over 120 dancers across four troupes, giving more than 500 performances a year worldwide. Since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the company has operated partly from the International Ballet Academy in Bellevue, Washington, while continuing to tour Europe and North America. A share of ticket revenue goes toward rebuilding the war-damaged Kyiv State Choreographic College.
Grand Kyiv Ballet is touring its new production 'Swan Lake: Symphony of Lights' - a reimagined version of Tchaikovsky's classic featuring illuminated costumes and contemporary lighting design - across North American venues through autumn 2026.
A sold-out Swan Lake performance in Dorset, Vermont in March 2026 raised funds for the rebuilding of a Kyiv dance school damaged during the war.
During its November 2024 Boston stop, the company announced that a portion of proceeds from performances would go toward restoring the children's dormitory at Kyiv State Ballet College.
Grand Kyiv Ballet has a Romeo and Juliet performance scheduled at Sara kulturhus in Skelleftea, Sweden on 30 January 2027.
