Guillermo del Toro is a Mexican film director who weaves dark fantasy with historical and political themes. His film Pan's Labyrinth (2006), set in post-civil-war Spain, won three Academy Awards. He also directed Hellboy and The Shape of Water, which earned him the Oscar for best director in 2018.
