Herbert Blomstedt is a Swedish conductor born in 1927, widely respected for his interpretations of the German and Austrian orchestral repertoire. He has served as music director of the San Francisco Symphony, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig and Staatskapelle Dresden, among others. Now 98, he remains an active presence on the podium.
