Iron Maiden are a British heavy metal band formed in Leyton, East London, in 1975 by bassist and primary songwriter Steve Harris. With frontman Bruce Dickinson and a catalogue spanning 17 studio albums, they have sold over 100 million records worldwide and remain one of the most influential acts in heavy metal history. The 1982 album 'The Number of the Beast' broke them internationally, and their mascot Eddie has become one of rock's most recognisable icons.
