He is best known as one half of the Grammy-winning comedy duo Flight of the Conchords alongside Bret McKenzie - a partnership that produced two HBO/BBC television series, six Emmy nominations and a Billboard 200 top-3 album. Beyond the Conchords, he co-wrote and co-directed the 2014 mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows with Taika Waititi, which later became a long-running FX series, and has appeared in films ranging from Men in Black 3 to Avatar: The Way of Water and A Minecraft Movie (2025).
Flight of the Conchords ended an eight-year touring hiatus with three sold-out shows at the Santa Barbara Bowl and the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles as part of the Netflix Is A Joke Festival.

Clement was announced to star alongside Nicola Walker in Alice and Steve, a new Disney+ comedy series from the makers of Baby Reindeer, expected to film in London.
Clement appeared in A Minecraft Movie (2025), adding to a long list of major film credits.
