About

John William Coltrane (September 23, 1926 - July 17, 1967) was an American jazz saxophonist, bandleader, and composer from North Carolina. He rose to prominence as a sideman with Miles Davis in the mid-1950s before leading his own groups, where his 'sheets of sound' technique and deep spiritual vision produced landmark albums that permanently altered the course of jazz. His 1964 recording A Love Supreme is widely regarded as one of the most significant albums in all of 20th-century music.
