KRS-One (born Lawrence Parker, 1965, New York) is an MC, producer and founding member of Boogie Down Productions, the Bronx crew whose 1987 debut Criminal Minded helped lay the groundwork for both hardcore rap and conscious hip-hop. Known as "The Teacha", he has released 24 solo albums and remains one of the most active live performers of his generation, blending sharp social commentary with boom-bap fundamentals.
