Messiah is an oratorio by Georg Friedrich Handel, first performed in Dublin in 1742. The work sets biblical texts to trace the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, and its closing "Hallelujah" chorus is one of the most recognisable moments in all of Western music. It has become a cornerstone of the Christmas concert tradition across the world.
