Pink Floyd are an English rock band formed in London in 1965, built around the core of Roger Waters, Nick Mason, Richard Wright and - after Syd Barrett's departure in 1968 - David Gilmour. Pioneers of psychedelic and progressive rock, they are among the best-selling artists in history with over 250 million records sold worldwide. Albums such as The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975) and The Wall (1979) remain cultural touchstones, and the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.
