Pussy Riot presents their music theatre show Riot Days in Uppsala. A provocative and political performance from the Russian collective.
Pussy Riot is a Russian feminist protest and performance art collective founded in Moscow in 2011 by Nadya Tolokonnikova and others. The group shot to global attention in 2012 when members were arrested and convicted of 'hooliganism motivated by religious hatred' after an unauthorised performance at Moscow's Cathedral of Christ the Saviour - a protest against Putin and the Orthodox Church's support of his rule. Operating now in exile, the collective has evolved from lo-fi punk into a broader mix of pop, hip-hop and performance art, releasing collaborations with artists such as Tove Lo, Dorian Electra and Tom Morello. In December 2025 a Moscow court designated Pussy Riot an 'extremist organisation', a ruling the group publicly rejected.
Pussy Riot staged a protest at the 61st Venice Biennale against Russia's inclusion in the exhibition, filming the opening track of their forthcoming album CYKA during the action.
Tolokonnikova discussed the new album CYKA (Russian for 'bitch') in interviews, describing most of its tracks as written in 2025 amid global political turmoil.
A Moscow court designated Pussy Riot an 'extremist organisation' on 15 December 2025, following a lawsuit filed by Russia's Ministry of Justice.
Tolokonnikova opened a solo exhibition called 'Punk's Not Dead' at Honor Fraser Gallery in Los Angeles in January 2025.
Pussy Riot released their debut mixtape MATRIARCHY NOW on Neon Gold Records, featuring collaborations with Tove Lo, Big Freedia, Hudson Mohawke and others.
