About

Ray Shirley White Sr. (born July 11, 1945, Arkansas) is an American soul vocalist and rock-blues guitarist who served as a key member of Frank Zappa's touring and recording bands from 1976 to 1984. His powerful voice and rhythm guitar work appear on landmark Zappa albums including Zappa in New York, You Are What You Is and Them or Us, and his vocal harmonies with Ike Willis became one of the band's most recognisable sounds. Since Zappa's death in 1993, White has stayed active through projects such as Banned From Utopia, The Zappa Band and the 2019 Bizarre World of Frank Zappa hologram tour, alongside releasing his debut solo album A Wrinkle in the Plan in 2019.
