Reg E. Cathey (1958-2018) was an American character actor from Huntsville, Alabama, trained at the University of Michigan and the Yale School of Drama. His deep, gravelly baritone became one of the most recognizable voices on American television, carrying him through a three-decade career on stage and screen. He is best remembered as Freddy Hayes in Netflix's House of Cards - a role that brought him three consecutive Emmy nominations and a win in 2015 - and as Norman Wilson in HBO's The Wire.
