About

Týr is a folk metal band from the Faroe Islands, formed in Copenhagen in 1998 by vocalist and guitarist Heri Joensen and bassist Gunnar H. Thomsen. Their music draws on Norse mythology, Faroese kvæði tradition and heavy metal, with lyrics in both English and Faroese. Over nine studio albums on labels including Napalm Records and Metal Blade Records, they have built a devoted international following and are widely regarded as one of the defining acts in Viking and folk metal.
