New Swedish Music at the Festivals

The Swedish Composers' Association (FST) and Sweden Festivals launched a collaboration in 2013 to promote music by living Swedish composers at member festivals throughout Sweden.

The project, titled "New Swedish Music at the Festivals", is an audience development initiative undertaken jointly by both organizations. Member festivals are offered subsidized concerts featuring ensembles performing new Swedish music. FST also encourages festivals to arrange concert introductions or seminars with composers in connection with the concerts.

"From FST's perspective, the idea is to create an incentive for each festival to program more music by our living composers and less by foreign deceased ones", says Martin Q Larsson, himself a composer and chairman of FST.
