Mozart & Beethoven Up Close — Göteborgs Konserthus, Gothenburg

Musicians from Göteborgs Symfoniker present a chamber music programme during Advent featuring works by Mozart and Beethoven - music that traces how the classical form evolves from elegance and clarity toward a larger, more dramatic expression.

Mozart's oboe quartet from 1781 combines virtuosity with refined dialogue, where the oboe's role is both lyrical and technically demanding. String Quartet No. 14 in G major, known as the "Spring Quartet", is the first of his six so-called Haydn Quartets and blends baroque elements with the galant style of classicism.

Beethoven's three string trios were written when the composer was 28 years old and mark his breakthrough as a chamber music composer. In the dramatic C minor trio and the brighter G major trio, he already stretches the classical form and points forward to the emergence of the string quartet and the romantic style.
