A Study of Losses — Avesta teater, AVESTA

With "A Study of Losses", Kompani Giraff continues to challenge the boundaries of what circus can tell. Four circus artists - Benjamin Beaujard, Elaine Briant, Elsa Lardier and Siméon Gratini - wake up in a landscape of forgotten everyday objects that carry memories, dreams and phantom pains. Through circus, contemporary magic and object manipulation, Kompani Giraff creates its own universe around the pull of the lost.

The performance weaves together fragments from German author Judith Schalanskys essay collection "Verzeichnis einiger Verluste" with newly composed music by American artist Beirut, alias Zach Condon, inspired by experimental pop and Renaissance music. The music has been specially composed in close collaboration with Kompani Giraff and plays a central role in the storytelling - it will also be released as a separate album in 2025. Zach Condon's voice and lyrics carry the performance's existential theme: What have I lost, and what am I afraid of losing?
