CANCER DANCE
Volymen, Kulturkvarteret, Örebro
Choreographer Nadja Hjorton has created a solo based on her own story. When she turned 40, she became a theatre director - and received a breast cancer diagnosis. CANCER DANCE begins with that time: the body changing, fear and loss of control, cells spiralling out of hand.
Yet the performance also holds everything that continued to exist in her life - her children, friends, TikTok dances in the living room, and unexpected moments of joy amid the chaos. It is neither a tearful tale nor a heroic saga, but the show Nadja herself would have wanted to see while ill: a solo with dark humour, physicality, and warmth.
Music: Britta Persson. Costume and mask: Daniel Åkerström Steen. Lighting design and scenography: Chrisander Brun, realised as the body's inner world in a playful and surrealist manner. Dance dramaturgy: Maryam Nikandish. Producer: Riksteatern.
Performance length: 1 hour.
