At Själagårdsgatan 19 in Stockholm's Gamla stan, where the Jewish Museum is housed today, there once stood a synagogue. The synagogue served as a center for Jewish life in the city and across the country. For nearly a century, from 1795 to 1870, Stockholm's Jews came here to receive Jewish education, participate in Jewish life, and receive support from the community's rabbi. The people who prayed, lived, and worked here were Swedish Jewish pioneers. This exhibition tells their story and the story of their shul.
