Berlin Philharmonic New Year's Concert

A documentary film about the artist Caravaggio - one of art history's most dramatic and controversial figures. Filmmakers David Bickerstaff and Phil Grabsky uncover hidden stories from his life and decipher clues embedded in his art, including the fascinating self-portraits that recur throughout his work, sometimes disguised, sometimes fully visible.

The film presents masterpiece after masterpiece and lets the artist himself testify to his life and struggle. No other painter combined dramatic light, intense naturalism, and bold figures in quite the same way - and the question of what his works reveal about the man behind the brush drives the narrative forward.
