Sharks in Swedish Waters
Sjöfartsmuseet Akvariet, Gothenburg
Ingår i entrébiljetten
Johanna Högvall and Christopher Griffiths from SLU Aqua present research on sharks in Swedish waters and the Northeast Atlantic. They describe how they collect data - including through underwater cameras and collaboration with commercial fishers - and how this information is combined with catch data and knowledge of shark biology to estimate population sizes and determine sustainable fishing quotas. The lecture concludes with how climate change and food availability in the oceans may affect shark populations in Swedish waters, both positively and negatively.
Johanna is an ecologist and biologist who works primarily with the BRUV method (Baited Remote Underwater Videos), both in the field and with data analysis. Christopher is a marine biologist and fisheries researcher with a British background; he has previously worked on tagging fish and sharks and now focuses on analysing fish stocks in Sweden and the EU. Next year he will lead the group analysing shark populations in the North Atlantic.
NOTE: The presentation is in both Swedish and English.
