Sashiko is a Japanese embroidery technique originally used to extend the lifespan of clothes and textiles. Over time, it evolved into an art form known for its rhythmic, geometric patterns - "sashiko" literally means "small stitches" or "small strikes". In this workshop, you will be inspired by the shapes and colours of the sea and learn to repair and decorate everything from clothing to home textiles. Materials are provided on site.
The workshop is led by Aladdin Mofakheri, an artist with a background in teaching. He works with many different materials, including textiles, and uses recycled materials with consideration for the environment and sustainability. Aladdin speaks Swedish, Persian, Arabic, Kurdish, and English.
The workshop is held on six occasions: 16 September, 30 September, 4 November, 5 November, 12 November, and 19 November 2026. The activity is included in the museum's admission ticket, but places are limited - arrive no later than 10 minutes before the start, otherwise your place may be reassigned if there is a queue. Unbooked places are released until the programme begins.
From age 13. The workshop is arranged in collaboration between ABF Väst and Sjöfartsmuseet Akvariet. If you need to cancel, contact: info.sjofartsmuseetakvariet@kultur.goteborg.se
