Pride and Prejudice
Göteborgs Stadsteater, Gothenburg
Elizabeth Bennet is a smart and independent young woman, determined to stay true to herself when it comes to love. Her first meeting with the introverted Mr Darcy confuses her - arrogant, certainly, but yet something special.
Jane Austen's classic Pride and Prejudice (1813) is directed by Ragna Wei, who previously staged Monica's Waltz (2023-2024) at Gothenburg City Theatre. Once again she collaborates with set designer and costume designer Helga Bumsch. The music is composed by Chris Lancaster.
The play revolves around love, self-knowledge, and the pitfalls that prejudice creates - about judging and misjudging both oneself and others, in a world where money, status, and social conventions rule.
Ragna Wei studied at the University of Oxford, founded the theatre group InSite in Malmö in 2007, and was artistic director of Borås City Theatre 2015-2017. She has also directed at Malmö City Theatre, Malmö Opera, Ung Scen Öst, Riksteatern, and Folkteatern in Gothenburg, and has been recognized for There Has Never Been a Woman Like Anna Karenina at Orion Theatre.
