Destroy This Play

Sam begins to suspect that life is not real - that everyone around him is following a script that no one wanted to share. At home, at school, everywhere: the lines seem rehearsed and the roles fixed. Then the Play itself speaks up and confirms Sam's suspicions. Everything is predetermined. But Sam is also given a choice: play along, or tear it all to pieces.

This is the premise of "Destroy This Play", written and directed by Emil Nilsson-Mäki, founder of Skuggteatern in Umeå. What begins as conventional theatre gradually dissolves into metadramatic chaos, where the rules and expectations of the adult world are turned inside out. Nilsson-Mäki's previous works - including Gargantua, I am not a girl and Lyssnaren - have been shown at festivals such as Bibu and Scenkonstbiennalen.
