CRYSIS: Revision - Medina Balešić — Konstepidemin, Gothenburg

CRYSIS: Revision is a video work by Medina Balešić in which choreography, sound, and moving image have been developed in close collaboration and shaped by each other throughout the process.

The starting point is the body as a carrier of memories and experiences. The choreography oscillates between control and dissolution, resistance and change - each movement renegotiates the relationship between body, space, and time. Breathing, physical exertion, and movement are used to show how past experiences settle in the body and affect how we move, perceive ourselves, and relate to others.

The work draws on experiences shared by FLINTA* people - women, lesbians, intersex, non-binary, trans, and agender individuals. The acronym serves as a collective term for groups historically and currently affected by gendered and patriarchal power structures. Rather than examining individual identities, it explores the bodily imprints left by norms, gender roles, and power: repetition, tension, adaptation, and exhaustion - but also the body as a site of resistance and recovery.

Medina Balešić (b. 1994, Göteborg) is an artist and curator based in Göteborg, Amsterdam, and Banja Luka. Her interdisciplinary practice moves between moving image, installation, sound, and participatory methods. With roots in Bosnia, she treats migration as a condition rather than a subject, exploring belonging, memory, and collective life through montage, found footage, personal archives, and digital visual culture.
