Britta Marakatt-Labba — Nordiska Akvarellmuseet, Gothenburg

Over the past decade, Britta Marakatt-Labba has achieved international recognition through her embroidered narratives, where the underworld, the upper world and the earth beneath our feet interweave through Sámi mythology. With needle and thread, she moves between the historical and the symbolic - her motifs circle around Sámi life close to nature, but also around colonialism, loss and resistance, the face of racism and the lost pastures of animals.

Far less known are her drawings and watercolours, works she has kept away from public view until now. These images lie thematically close to her embroideries - the same motifs often recur, but in a more intimate expression.

In autumn/winter 2026-2027, Nordiska Akvarellmuseet presents for the first time an exhibition of Marakatt-Labba's works on paper. Around 70 works are included, mainly watercolours and drawings, complemented by a selection of embroideries, sculptures and prints.
