GJO: Jazz@Park Lane - "A Letter to Eje Thelin" featuring Karin Hammar

This concert is based on the critically acclaimed double album recorded with Nils Landgren to honour trombone legend Eje Thelin. Karin Hammar takes the solo trombone chair - a musician who has worked with most of Europe's leading big bands and toured in nearly 30 countries with artists including Kenny Werner, Carla Bley, Tim Hagans, Steve Swallow, Bob Brookmeyer, Maria Schneider and Nils Landgren. She has also released six internationally acclaimed albums under her own name.

Eje Thelin (1938-1990) was one of Sweden's most internationally renowned jazz musicians - a virtuoso trombonist, innovative composer and orchestra leader. His final composition, the suite "Raggruppamento", was recorded live by Radiojazzgruppen in 1989, but because Eje was too ill to play all his parts, guitarist Göran Klinghagen took them over.

The opening set starts at 18.30 and Göteborg Jazz Orchestra plays at 19.00. After the performance, there will be socialising and jam sessions in the piano bar at the neighbouring Park Aveny hotel.

Jazz@Park Lane takes place at Kungsportsavenyn 38, near Götaplatsen, in collaboration with Wauxhall Jazz and Sensus Studieförbund.
