Women and Apple Trees

Two women from Norrköping's poor quarter - Sally and Ellen - carry this production. They meet again as adults and support each other: Ellen in a destructive marriage, Sally with a voice that will not be silenced even when those around her wish it would. Around them, children live their daily lives of hard work and brief moments of togetherness.

Moa Martinson's 1933 novel portrays women's living conditions in language rooted in earth and labour - and it still cuts deep. Tora von Platen has dramatized the text and Julia Marko-Nord directs. The production plays at Halmstad Teater in a co-production with Västerbottensteatern and runs for 2 hours including intermission.
