The performance begins in 1937, when Lotte Laserstein arrives in Sweden. She has left Berlin, where Jews are stripped of their rights and she can no longer practice her profession as an artist - but her mother and sister remain behind. In Sweden, she fights to bring them to her, builds a new life, and questions who one can be in a foreign land. She reflects on her years as a celebrated artist in Berlin, wondering what will become of her - as a person and as an artist. Yet she never stops painting. "A day without painting is a lost day." In her later years, her life takes an unexpected turn.
The ensemble is the same one that achieved success with the Kristina Lugn production "Tack och lov att jag finns" - approximately 60 performances on tour throughout the country. This time it is strengthened by musician and actor Martin Ellborg, a familiar name to many from Byteatern and Kalmar Länsteater. The music is newly composed by Thomas Hertzman and plays an important role in the performance.
Lotte Laserstein is again recognized through exhibitions in Berlin, London, and at the Moderna museum in Malmö and Stockholm, and her art is sold today for millions.
