Byström and Tchaikovsky on Tour
The concert opens with a short work by Bulgarian-British composer Dobrinka Tabakova - Orpheus' Comet - which evokes a sense of space and movement. This is followed by Halkyoniska dagar by Britta Byström, a piece where the sounds are allowed to linger. The title refers to a period of calm and mild weather. The soloist is flautist Laura Michelin from Norrköping, one of Sweden's most acclaimed young musicians.
The second part of the concert is devoted to Pyotr Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5, one of the composer's most frequently performed symphonies. The music begins darkly and restrained but grows step by step toward a powerful and triumphant finale.
Before the concert, The Wood Hotel by Elite serves drinks and light snacks in the South foyer. Service opens 45 minutes before the event begins.
