Brilliant Horn Concerto by Helen Grime
Göteborgs Konserthus, Gothenburg
Scottish composer Helen Grime strives to create a new sonic world in each piece, with long expressive lines and rich harmonies. The brand-new horn concerto is written especially for Alec Frank-Gemmill, principal horn of Gothenburg Symphony and one of Europe's leading horn players. Helen Grime last visited Gothenburg in 2024, when her trumpet concerto night-sky-blue was performed by Håkan Hardenberger.
Conductor Eun Sun Kim from South Korea, music director of San Francisco Opera, leads the Symphony in Korngold's only completed symphony, written in 1952 - a work with adventurous melodies and love themes in the same spirit as the film music Korngold is known for.
One hour before the concert, an introduction takes place in the Great Hall, lasting approximately 30 minutes, with free seating. The introduction is included in the ticket price.
