DRIFT

13 November 2026 - 28 February 2027

DRIFT originates in the Arctic Ocean aboard the icebreaker Oden. Over six weeks, Sara-Vide Ericson works in a container on deck, painting around sixty new works while the vessel breaks through two-metre-thick ice in an ever-changing landscape.

In 2025, Ericson participates in the Canada-Sweden Arctic Ocean expedition. The working process is physically demanding and transformative - it includes helicopter excursions onto the ice to gather material for works created aboard and for continued work in her studio in Hälsingland. The exhibition comprises around sixty newly produced works spanning monumental canvases, installations, and materials from the expedition. From a depth of four thousand metres in the Arctic basin, rare seafloor sediments were retrieved through deep-sea drilling - research material in which organic and geological content has been preserved in oxygen-depleted environments for thousands of years. In Ericson's work, these sediments are dried, ground, and transformed into pigments, and are also investigated through the body - touch, smell, and taste - in an encounter between measurable data and sensory experience.

DRIFT is both an external and an internal expedition: a narrative about human physical endeavour in confrontation with an immutable nature, but also a confrontation with inner drives, fears, and limitations. All works are shown for the first time.
