Meet the Artist: Sebastian Blind — Bror Hjorths Hus, Uppsala
Description was written before the event

Sebastian Blind, recipient of the Bror Hjorth Association's drawing stipend for 2026, discusses his artistic practice at the ongoing exhibition at Bror Hjorths Hus.

Blind's Sámi heritage forms the foundation of an artistic practice rooted in shamanic tradition. Respect for all living things and reverence for creation are central to his work. The exhibition consists primarily of large-scale charcoal drawings - he views charcoal as an artistic tool born from fire:

"Without fire we would never have survived. In the Sámi relationship to fire is Sáráhkká, a deeply beloved protective goddess. I believe she always leaves behind a powerful gift: charcoal. I use it respectfully as a tool in my artistic practice. What happens after such a process is that the work gains its own capacity and life."

Sebastian Blind (born 1986) is an active artist based in Ubmeje (Umeå) and recently graduated from the Bachelor's programme in Fine Art at the University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Umeå.
