Friskvård - Kasra Seyed Alikhani
The work Friskvård unfolds in a modern spa where the painful water treatments of the turn of the century have been replaced by baths in body-temperature water - yet guests are still disturbed by hard-to-ignore warning signals and struggle to maintain their composure.
Kasra Seyed Alikhani (born 1987 in Tehran) works with painting, moving image, and installation, blending personal observations with mass-cultural material in fictional scenarios. Dramatization, humor, and shifts in scale are recurring strategies to make the unfamiliar visible within the familiar - and to expose the existential layers that otherwise slip past in everyday life. Questions of belonging and conformity run as a thread throughout, often embodied through tensions between sickness and health, authenticity and performance, us and them.
Alikhani studied fine art at HDK-Valand and dramatic writing at Biskops Arnö, and is based in Stockholm. Previous exhibitions include Gothenburg Museum of Art, Borås Museum of Art, Kulturhuset in Stockholm, and Lund Museum of Art.
The exhibition is part of I rörelse - fokus på rörlig bild, performance och poesi - a program with a norm-critical and intersectional perspective running parallel to the gallery's regular exhibition program. Free admission.
