Midwives in Wilderness

Midwives in Wilderness is a music and storytelling performance about the midwives who worked far from the comforts of the city in Norrbotten. The performance is based on collected material, archival documents, and interviews.

With newly composed original music and narration, the stories come alive of women who made their way through snowstorms and dark forests to be where they were needed most. Beyond delivering babies, they assisted during epidemics such as the Spanish flu, and were often early advocates for contraception and abortion rights.

The performance also addresses broader questions about childbirth, women's health, and rights that remain relevant today.
