Liljevalchs 110 Years: The Social Museum and the Organization of Art — liljevalchs konsthall, Stockholm

For Liljevalchs' 110th anniversary, artist Ingela Johansson has been invited to curate a two-part programme exploring the art institution's history. In her artistic practice, Johansson investigates Sweden's relationship with the wider world and is known for her archival work. Here she examines how Liljevalchs has shaped perceptions of art, which expressions have been given space, and how different historical periods have influenced the institution.

This is the first part of the programme, subtitled "A room of one's own for Art". Johansson presents aspects of her research through two conversations with invited guests.

Participants: Ingela Johansson (artist and curator), Joanna Zawieja (architect and curator) and Pella Myrstener (PhD in art history). Corina Oprea, curator and head of public activities at Liljevalchs, moderates the panel discussion.

18.00 Introduction by Corina Oprea, followed by a speculative lecture by Ingela Johansson - from the institution's founding, through World War II and into the 1950s ideas about the modern museum.

18.30 Starting from Liljevalchs' history, Joanna Zawieja looks ahead and asks what we are actually building when we create a space for art - what happens there beyond the art itself, and what role the art institution can play as a shared space and social infrastructure in the city.

18.40 Panel discussion with Ingela Johansson, Joanna Zawieja and Pella Myrstener, moderated by Corina Oprea.

The programme is held in Swedish. Limited number of places. Admission to Liljevalchs is included in the ticket price.

Part 2 - Liljevalchs, Women's Struggle and the Social Space - is held on 3 December at 18.00, with Malin Arnell, Gittan Jönsson and Gunilla Lundahl as invited guests.
