Industrial History Walk, Eastern Södermalm
Sun, 18 Oct 2026
Axel Landquists Park, mittemot Åsögatan 146, Stockholm
This walk explores the industrial quarters of Eastern Södermalm, where activities such as hardtack factories and textile manufacturers dominated from the late 1600s to the first half of the 1900s. Many of the original buildings remain standing, and historical photographs are shown along the route to bring the locations to life.
The route passes Hammarby Lake, whose water level dropped nearly 5 meters after the Danviks Canal opened in 1929, and Hammarby Harbour, whose operations declined sharply in the early 1990s. The area also contains what is described as a unique cultural reserve.
