Vadstena Slott is a Renaissance castle on the eastern shore of Lake Vättern, built in the 16th century by order of Gustav Vasa. It served for many years as a state prison and remains one of Sweden's best-preserved Renaissance fortresses. During summer it hosts concerts, opera performances and cultural events.
